[it better look enough like a person hiding under those sheets for someone to make assumptions about.]

[anyway once he feels confident it'll pass muster as a stand-in for a him-sized attention-getter he's going to slip himself carefully under the bed and try, quite literally, to flatten himself out such that he's flush with the underside of the bed, like a net with someone's clothes caught and spread flat in the middle of it - after a moment's panic when his hat starts to fall off and he has to bite hold of if with his teeth, despairing as hair that isn't his briefly tumbles down to touch the floor before he can force it to spread out with the rest of him.]

[ugh, this is humiliating, but he'd really rather humiliate himself instead of die.]
