It's possible the windows aren't locked, but simply stuck because they haven't been opened in a long time.

There's a brief moment where nothing appears to happen.

Then, with certainty,

The windows are purposefully locked to keep people from climbing out a second story window and hurting themselves.

A witch could safely float out without hurting herself.

But if that's not the red truth I'm supposed to usurp... It'll start to rain soon, it's easier to wait for everyone to get back from the beach and have fun here.

The nightstand seems pretty bare with just an alarm clock radio that seems to not be working and a lamp. Still you get a kind of drowsy feeling of frustration just looking at it.
